Half of the children’s daily diet eaten in school and leisure scheme. Children eat in a community where your food has more functions than just to feed and it is important to consider when working with school meals. We must give children a feeling that the school lunch counts, and not just something to be overcome. School meal should be the setting for a great way to be together.
First and foremost, the children feel like the food, it must be welcoming and taking care of the situation by eating in. The goal is that children associate healthy food with fun and togetherness coupled with good flavors.
“The framework for serving contributes to children’s public education through demonstration that food is something you share, and something to be enjoyed in peace and order in nice surroundings,” says Marjaana Mannninen, advisor at the Finnish Ministry of Education.
Healthy food in schools provide learning
Access to and focus on healthy food in school is not just a health issue, it is also a community and an opportunity to give children learning about the culture and behavior. And so the children are learning more willing if the food is good and nutritious.
There are many opportunities to involve students in various tasks around the school food. Multimedia teacher can be compared with students taking pictures of the food for the school’s bulletin board and website. As part of awareness campaigns on healthy school meals, the Food Administration therefore developed a new inspiration and guidance material to help schools and municipalities to promote their health profile of school meals. The material consists, inter alia, of a directory that can be ordered for those who prepare and organize school meals. It includes nutrition recommendations for both the school and to external suppliers, an inspiration book of experiences from other schools, posters and recipes for all school meals, accompanied nutrition calculations
The material is drawn up with particular a variety of helpful Schools. The many recipes are based on children’s favorite foods, they are developed and flavored by a nutrition and husholdningsøkonom and a chef – and lives up to the recommendations. They are also tested by both internal and external school meals providers in two months.
